I remember the fear of money like it was yesterday. The drop in my stomach whenever I spent anything. The need to hoard every dollar I could. The deprivation, the worry.

Growing up, my mom always tried to put on a brave face, but the money situation wore on her. My dad was sick and out of work, and she had five mouths to feed on $2,000 per month (pre-tax).

I remember trips to the grocery store where we discovered at checkout we didn’t have enough to cover the cart.

I remember coupons and food bank assistance.

I remember handmade Christmas gifts, second-hand clothes, and thrift store finds.

I remember camping—the only vacation we could ever afford.

I remember watered down spaghetti sauce, my mom doing whatever she could to feed us on the small budget we had.

I remember her fear, the way she would burst into tears if we wasted even a bite of food.

Fear ended up being my initial motivation to save and invest my money AND it worked, at first.

I achieved early investing success, and was featured on The Oprah Winfrey Show at the age of 17 because I was on track to make my first million by age 25.

But, I had a •slight• problem. I still had an all-consuming fear that I'd never have enough.

I ignored my feelings, charged ahead with growing my money coaching business, and taking as much financial training as I could—because that was going to make me feel better.

But, I was still up at night worried about my finances, and my self-esteem was plummeting.

I knew the fastest way for me to build authority and influence was through becoming a personal finance author. And so, I wrote three bestselling money books.

I was impacting the lives of MILLIONS, and was literally on every major television show and newspaper in North America.

...BUT, I STILL HAD FINANCIAL FEAR!

This horrible fear was negatively impacting my decision making, my money, my business, my relationships and my self-worth.

My fear was the reason I missed my EXTREMELY public goal of hitting one million by 25.

I was SO EMBARRASSED.

Here I was, a "personal finance expert," and I was full of financial fear that I couldn't seem to control.

I felt like a giant failure. I became depressed.

I knew that if anyone peeled back the layers of me, nobody was going to see me as an expert in anything if I couldn't get over my fears about money, and build my confidence again.
